by Scholes, Robert
Frederick Goodall (1822 – 1904) It is not always clear which Goodall is indicated by a mention of this surname, since Edward Goodall was an artist who had three artistic sons, including Frederick, but Frederick, who became a member of the Royal Academy, is probably the one usually intended in the pages of , especially if the issue is the debate between the academicians and the moderns. He studied with his father, was noticed and encouraged by Ruskin, and travelled widely. He was known as a landscape, genre, and biblical painter. His brothers’ names were Edward Angelo Goodall and Walter Goodall. There is a website devoted to the Goodall family of artists: . The New Age www.goodallartists.ca
