Biographies

He was born and lived in London. At first he studied medecine but switched from this to art, studying at the Slade School of Art in 1910-12, where he worked under Henry Tonks, Philip Wilson Steer and Walter Westley Russell. He won a Slade Scholarship and later studied in Paris and Munich. His posts included Stage designer to the Beecham Opera company and Art Master at the Westminster Technical Institute. He became a member of the London Group in 1914. He also did posters for the British Railways and covers for Coterie magazine. He exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, New English Arts Club, Leicester Galleries, and the Fine Art Society, which put on a retrospective exhibition in 1984.
