Hal (Henry) (William) (Lewis Hurst (1865 – 1938) He was born in London but began his career by drawing scenes from the Irish “troubles.” He then went to America and worked for newspapers in Philadelphia and New York. He returned to Europe and studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris and at the Royal Academy Schools in London. He was known as a painter of portraits and genre scenes. He lived mainly in London.
