Biographies

A painter and illustrator of travel books (Norway, Holland, etc.), often done with texts by his wife, Beatrix. One of his more interesting efforts is the following book by Colonel Maxse, recently listed in a catalogue:

SEYMOUR VANDELEUR, Lieutenant-Colonel, Scots Guards and Irish Guards (The Story of a British Officer), A plain narrative of the part played by British officers in the acquisition of colonies and dependencies in Africa representing a dominion of greater extent than India added to the British Empire in less than twenty years, with water-colour illustrations by Nico Jungman, 288 pages, colour frontispiece portrait, 9 folding maps – the two at the back are in full colour, one being entitled “The Partition of Africa, 1902”, and the other “Africa, European Possessions in 1884, – 13 illustrations, watercolour plates protected with tissue guards, blue cloth rubbed & stained, spine faded & entirely split down the length of one hinge, some slight intermittent foxing, William Heinemann, London, 1906.

He is mentioned in passing by G. R. S. Taylor, in The New Age (NA 3.14:277), where his name is mis-spelled “Jungmann.”
