Logsdail, William (1859-1944)

William Logsdail (1859 – 1944) He was born in Lincoln and studied at the Lincoln School of Art and in Antwerp under Verlat at the Antwerp Academy. He lived and worked in Venice, Sicilly, and Cairo and at Noke near Oxford. In his early career he specialized in architectural scenes, but after 1901 did almost nothing but portraits. Anthony Ludovici, in the pages of deplored a Logsdail portrait in these terms: “Such things, we know, must be–but they need not necessarily be exhibited.” The New Age (NA 13:12:337)
