Auguste-Elysée Chabaud (1882 – 1955) He was born in Nimes and began his art studies at the School of Fine Arts in Avignon under Pierre Grivolas in 1896, moving to Paris in 1899, where he met and at the École des Beaux-Arts . Returing to the south of France in 1900 he worked on a boat and discovered the beauties of the African coast. He did his military service in Tunisia from 1903 to 1906, filling his sketch books with images of local scenes. Matisse Derain In 1907 he returned to Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants with the Fauves, moving to cubism in 1911 and working as a sculptor as well as a painter. In 1920 he returned to Graveson in Provence, where he spent the rest of his life. There is now a museum dedicated to his work in Graveson.
