Small, Florence (1881-1931 (active))
by Scholes, Robert
Florence Small (1860 – 1933) She was born in Nottingham and studied art in Geneva, Berlin, and Paris. She lived in London for many years and married Deric Hardy, whose name she sometimes used in signing her paintings. A member of the Pastel Society, she exhibited with that group, earning a nasty comment from Ezra Pound in 1918, “Beata Beatrix gone very bad” , an apparent reference to the “blessed” Beatrix Potter, famous author and illustrator of children’s books.
