Biographies

Henry Ryland (1856 – 1924) He was born at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, and studied art at the Royal College of Art and at the Académie Julian in Paris under Constant and Lefebvre. He worked as an illustrator, although he was also a designer of stained glass and a painter in water colors. He lived in London. Reviewing his work in April, 1918, Ezra Pound saw him as an imitator of Alma-Tadema . Pound was not the only person to notice this resemblance. (NA 22.24:472)
