Bellini Family (1430-1516) by Scholes, Robert

Bellini Family (1430 – 1516)

Jacopo, the father, was a Venetian artist, who had two artist sons, Gentile and Giovanni. Giovanni was the most important, and is usually the one being referred to when only the last name is used. He taught Titian and Giorgione, and he was a major painter himself. Many of his works have been lost due to fire, but the ones we have are still impressive. His northern contemporary, Dürer, thought he was the greatest Italian painter of his time. Images of his work are widely available on the Web.
