Botticelli, Sandro (1444?-1510) by Scholes, Robert

Sandro Botticelli (1444 – 1510)

He was born in or near Florence and came of age in that city, where he worked in the studio of Filippo Lippi. His painting style was marked by a medieval tendency toward allegory, which made him the darling of Ruskin and the Pre-Raphaelites. His paintings are widely known and information about him is easy to find.
