Alfred East (1849 – 1913) He was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, and showed early signs of artistic talent. While living in Glasgow he enrolled in the Government School of Art there. He then studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under Fleury and , painting his first Academy picture while at Barbizon. He returned to Glasgow, but after some years moved to London, where he settled in 1884. Bouguereau
