Elmslie, Essil (1880-1952) by Scholes, Robert

Essil Elmslie (1880 – 19521906 – 1924) She lived in London and Hertforshire. She was a figure and portrait painter. She replaced as secretary to the Friday Club of artists in 1913. Bell had founded the club around 1907. Between 1910 and 1914 its exhibitions included young artists of talent, among them , , , and , and drew much comment from the press. Despite this, the history of the Club remains shadowy because no minutes of its meetings exist and not all its exhibition catalogues can be traced. The work of Essil Elmslie remains in those shadows.
