Ghirlandaio, Domenico (di Tommaso Bigordi) (1449 – 1494) The son of a Florentine goldsmith, he took his name, apparently, from his father’s skill at making garlands. He painted portraits and fescoes, working realistic images of local people into his larger works. Among his young pupils was Michelangelo.
