Graham, Thomas Alexander Ferguson (Tom) (1840-1906) by Scholes, Robert

Graham, Thomas Alexander Ferguson (Tom) (1840-1906) Thomas Graham worked in Scotland under Robert Scott Lauder, but in 1863 he moved to London. Here he shared a home with two better-known pupils of Lauder: and John Pettie. He posed for the husband in one (of Orchardson’s series of paintings about bad marriages. In Charles St. John praised Graham’s Orpheus and Eurydice as “a remarkable picture of a man and girl walking on the Embankment at night. The painting of the distant bridges and the moonlight on the water is particularly truthful and beautiful.” () Sir William Quiller Orchardson The First Cloud The New Age (NA 4:14:289)
