John McLure Hamilton (1853 – 1936) He was born in Philadelphia and began his studies there, but completed them in Europe, first at the Royal Academy in Antwerp, and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited his work in Europe, England, and the United States, but lived mainly in England in his later years. He was well known and respected as a painter of portraits and still-lifes.
