Jurres, Johannes Hendricus (1873-1946) by Scholes, Robert

Johannes Hendricus Jurres (1873 – 1946) He was born in Leeuwarden and studied at the Ryks Academy in Amsterdam. Later he painted in Italy, Spain and Switzerland. He became Professor of Art at the Amsterdam Academy. In addition he did book illustrations. He was known mainly as a history painter.
