Lightfoot, Maxwell Gordon (1886-1911) by Scholes, Robert

Maxwell Gordon Lightfoot (1886 – 1911) He was born in Liverpool and studied at the Chester Art School from 1902 to 1905. He was then apprenticed as a chromolithographer and took evening classes at the Sandon Studios in Liverpool, under Gerard Chowne and Merbert MacNair. He then studied at the Slade School from 1907 to 1909, and was a member of the Camden Town Group, but resigned after their first show. He took his own life in 1911. Some critics thought he had a very promising future as an artist.
