(Arthur) Ambrose McEvoy (1878 – 1927) He was born at Crudwell, Wiltshire. Encouraged by Whistler he entered the Slade School at an early age, and there became friendly with and . He joined the New English Art Club in 1902. He began painting interiors and urban landscapes but moved on to specialize in portraits. He married another Slade student, , in 1902.
