Memling, Hans (1430?-1494) by Scholes, Robert

Hans Memling (1430 – 1494) He was born in Seligenstadt, Germany, but spent much of his life in Brugge (Bruges) and other Belgian cities, and is known as a Flemish painter. He may have studied with Rogier van der Weyden, and he certainly learned from that painter. He painted everything from fantastic mystical images to careful portraits.
