Luca Signorelli (1450 – 1523) He was born and died in Cortona, but he worked in many Italian cities–most notably Rome (on the Sistine Chapel) and Orvieto, where his apocalyptic frescoes continue to draw attention because of their uncanny power. He seems to have studied with , but he was a peer of in depicting action. Freud, writing about the Orvieto frescoes, famously forgot the name of the artist who painted them.
