Charles Walter Simpson (1885 – 1971) He was born at Camberley in Surrey. He had hoped to pursue a career in the army but an unfortunate riding accident prevented it. He studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris, after which he exhibited in Paris, London and various places in Britain, and he won a number of international prizes. He was known for painting birds, animals, hunting scenes, and land- and sea-scapes. He married Ruth Alison, a noted portrait painter and they moved to St Ives in Cornwall. When Buffalo Bill’s Circus visited Wembley in 1924, Simpson painted some saddle horses there, a work which later appeared in magazine (See below). El Rodeo
