Jan Sluyters (1881 – 1957) Johannes Carolus Bernardus Sluijters, to give him his full name, was born in Den Bosch and studied art there and in Amsterdam, where he won a Rome Prize in 1904. As an artist he moved from impressionism through fauvism to cubism and abstraction, but is best known today for his impressionist and fauvist works.
