Lionel Percy Smythe (1840 – 1918) He was a careful painter of landscape and maritime scenes. The image below of was based on studies in the cabin of a schooner moored at the Surrey Commercial Docks. A sloping platform was constructed in the back parlour of the family’s house in Gloucester Crescent near Regent’s Park. Smythe was assisted in this work by his step-brother, William Lionel Wyllie.
