Steelink, Willem Jr. (1856-1928) by Scholes, Robert

Willem Jr. Steelink (1856 – 1928) From the Hambledon Fine Art gallery: Willem Steelink was a specialist painter of landscapes and animals. Born in Amsterdam, he was educated in The Hague and went on to become of the leading Dutch landscape artists of his generation. His style owes much to the Hague School with it’s strong use of silvery greys but he always worked with denser use of pigment and great clarity of line which make for a style more typical of the early 20th century. He was also an engraver and lithographer, illustrating works of Dutch history and making engravings after famous paintings by other artists.
