Stettler, Martha (1870-1946)
by Scholes, Robert
Martha Stettler (1870 – 1946) She was born in Bern, Switzerland, the daugher of a well-known architect who had himself worked in Paris when Charles Garnier was building the Paris Opera House. Coming to Paris herself, Martha founded and taught at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, in Montparnasse (pictured above). In 1913, at a show in Paris, Anthony Ludovici found very little evidence of exceptional talent, except for one or two pieces of sculpture and painting by Stettler (). The New Age (NA 15:2:44)
