Swan, John Macallan (1847-1910) by Scholes, Robert

John Macallan Swan (1847 – 1910) He was born in Brentford, and studied at the Lambeth School of Art, and the Royal Academy Schools. Later, he worked in Paris with Gérome and the sculptor Frémiet. He gained fame as a painter of wild animals, and posters of his animal paintings are still popular today.
