Wardle, Arthur (1864-1949) by Scholes, Robert

Arthur Wardle (1864 – 1949) He was born in London, where he received no formal training, but went to zoos and made images of the animals there. He became quite well-known as an animal artist, in oils and pastels, painting pictures of both wild and domestic creatures, with a few mythic or legendary figures occasionally being represented. He lived in London and exhibited with the Royal Academy from 1880 on.
