Whymper, Charles (1853-1941) by Scholes, Robert

Charles Whymper (1853 – 1941) The son of artists Josiah Wood and Emily Hepburn Whymper, he was a landscape, bird, and animal painter. His whimsy did not amuse Ezra Pound in 1919. Pound observed, “C. Whymper, ghosting, we presume, the lamented humanitarian and animalitarian Landseer, presents (title): ‘The Stalker: bother the grouse, where’s my stag?’ Bother the picturist, where have we laid the harpoon?” .
