Alfred Bentley (1879 – 1923)
Alfred Bentley studied etching and engraving under Sir Frank Short at South Kensington. There, he became a lifelong friend of his fellow classmate, Malcolm Osborne (1880-1963). Throughout the following years the two artists often worked together and shared the same studio. Bentley was elected an Associate of the prestigious Royal Engravers in 1908 and became a full member in 1913. His etchings and drypoint engravings were frequently exhibited at both the Royal Academy, London, and at the Royal Scottish Academy.
